Unbeaten featherweight Movsar Evloev is prepared to adjust his fighting style to secure a title shot against UFC Champion Alexander Volkanovski.
Movsar Evloev, boasting a perfect 19-0 record and currently ranked #4 in the UFC featherweight division, asserts his claim as the top challenger for Alexander Volkanovski`s championship. He highlights his impressive streak of nine consecutive victories within the Octagon.
A potential obstacle to a title opportunity for Evloev is the lack of highlight finishes in his recent fights, with all of his UFC bouts going to the judges` scorecards.
Despite this, Evloev has built a strong case for a title fight with wins against notable opponents, including former champion Aljamain Sterling, Arnold Allen, and recent title contender Diego Lopes. He dismisses Yair Rodriguez`s calls for a rematch with Volkanovski, especially after Rodriguez`s previous loss to the champion.
Movsar Evloev Ready to Strike with Volkanovski for Title Chance
In a surprising statement, Evloev expressed his willingness to engage in a striking-focused battle with Volkanovski if granted a title shot. This is noteworthy as Volkanovski is renowned for his striking prowess, demonstrated in dominant performances against fighters like Max Holloway.
“I can promise them that I’m not going to attempt takedowns against Volkanovski if they give me a title shot,” Evloev stated on the Overdogs Podcast.
“I won`t initiate grappling exchanges.
“If he tries to take me down, I will defend.
“But my primary approach will be striking. We`ll see what happens.”
Evloev mentioned that in his last fight against Sterling, he intentionally focused on striking to counter the perception of him as a decision fighter.
However, the fight with Sterling evolved into a grappling contest, limiting Evloev`s opportunities to showcase his striking, although he still secured a unanimous decision victory.
Movsar Evloev Determined to Face Alexander Volkanovski
Defeating Volkanovski is a significant challenge, as “Alexander The Great” holds an impressive 18-1 record in the featherweight division. Volkanovski is known for his exceptional footwork and distance control, effectively utilizing his jab to keep opponents at bay.
Evloev outlined his strategy to overcome Volkanovski`s striking expertise:
“I’ll pressure him against the cage,” Evloev explained his path to victory.
“I won’t allow him to escape or move freely.
“This will force him to engage in striking exchanges with me. Eventually, he will fatigue, or I will break his resistance.
“I am confident in my superior power, wrestling ability, and overall control over five rounds, with the potential for a ground finish.”
While Alexander Volkanovski has been taken down in the past, notably by Chad Mendes, he has consistently demonstrated his resilience and ability to overcome such challenges, often turning the tide and securing finishes.
The question remains: which game plan will Movsar Evloev ultimately employ? The answer will unfold as he awaits his opportunity for a title fight or a title eliminator bout.
