Aaron Pico has officially joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship, marking a significant step in his career after becoming a highly sought-after free agent.
Following PFL`s acquisition of Bellator in late 2023, the future for many Bellator fighters was uncertain. Pico, recognized as a top prospect in the 145-pound featherweight division, was among those affected.
Now, the 28-year-old, who had only one fight since the merger, follows in the footsteps of fighters like Kayla Harrison and Patricio Pitbull by transitioning to the UFC.
Pico Announces UFC Signing
“After years of intense work and dedication, my UFC signing is official,” Pico stated on Instagram. He described this move as a dream realized and the start of a new chapter, with his ultimate ambition set on becoming the UFC champion.
Rumors circulated earlier in the week about a potential debut fight for Pico against top contender Movsar Evloev. However, Evloev dismissed these rumors, indicating he is waiting for the outcome of the Alexander Volkanovski vs. Diego Lopes fight at UFC 314.
Pico confirmed the Evloev fight was considered, seeing it as a positive indication of the UFC`s high expectations for him. He mentioned a conversation with Ali Abdelaziz about the potential matchup for April 17th, which ultimately did not materialize.
Potential UFC Opponents for Pico
With the Evloev fight off the table for now, speculation turns to who Pico might face in his debut. Aljamain Sterling, a former UFC bantamweight champion, has expressed interest in fighting in June during International Fight Week. Given Sterling`s top 10 ranking, he could be a logical opponent. Another possibility is Arnold Allen, currently ranked seventh, who is also seeking a fight.
