World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz shared his reflections following his thrilling victory over World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the final of the 2024 Roland Garros. Alcaraz mounted a dramatic comeback, winning the match with a final score of 4/6, 6/7(4), 6/4, 7/6(3), 7/6(2) after finding himself two sets down.
It`s very difficult to put into words what happened. I was down two sets to love against the world number one, considering the level he was playing at. I just put my soul and heart into it and tried not to give up. I didn`t even think about giving up, I just fought, point by point. In the end, it was all from the heart. I showed balls, grandpa is proud. After the match, I think you can say that.
Addressing whether the match ranked among the sport`s greatest Grand Slam finals, Alcaraz offered a humble perspective. “Saying it was one of the best Grand Slam finals in history is too grand a statement. There have been better finals, for example, Djokovic against Nadal at the Australian Open in 2012. I`m just happy that I was able to write my name into one of the best and, perhaps, the longest final here [at Roland Garros],” he stated during an interview with Eurosport.
