World No. 2 Alexander Zverev has shared his views on the doping control system currently in place on the Tour.
“Honestly, it`s an annoying process because every single day we have to be in a certain location where we basically state where we`re going to be for about an hour of the day. But at the same time, if they show up at a different hour than the one we assigned them, we still have to return to the location.”
“For example, this happened to me late last year in December when I was picking up my daughter from the airport in Nice. And then there was a doping control: they scheduled my time for about 7:00 or 8:00 in the morning, but they came at 9:00 in the evening. They call me, saying you have to return. I said: `I can`t, I`m picking up a three-year-old child.`”
“They replied: `No, you have to return, no matter what happens.` This is even more irritating because they sort of take away our freedom to live a little. If I`m picking up my daughter from the airport – that`s more important to me. This anti-doping system cannot decide for you that you have to drop everything and suddenly return. This system could be better, and this system could change a little,” Zverev stated.
