Alexander Zverev: Frustrated After Monte Carlo Defeat

World No. 2 Alexander Zverev is unhappy with his recent performances after losing to Matteo Berrettini in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters. The German player was defeated 6-2, 3-6, 5-7.

“Since the Australian Open, I haven`t won many matches. The last few months have been my worst period since my ankle injury,” Zverev admitted.

He continued, “I played great in the first set, but as soon as I dropped serve in the second, my level decreased dramatically. My shots became much slower, and I stopped hitting through the ball entirely.”

“This has been the pattern for the last few months. Nothing changes. I feel like I lost the match myself again. I think my level was terrible, but that`s just my opinion.”

Zverev concluded, “The bottom line is that I`m losing. It`s simple. If I win one or two of these kinds of matches, there won`t be any more questions. But I’ve lost three-set matches in Buenos Aires, Rio, Indian Wells, Miami, and now here. I haven`t won any of them. So, it comes down to these matches.”
