Amanda Anisimova Retires During Charleston Semifinal Match

American tennis star, Amanda Anisimova, ranked 16th globally, was compelled to withdraw from her WTA 500 Charleston Open semifinal match due to health concerns. The match against fellow American Sofia Kenin, ranked 44th, concluded prematurely in the first set with a score of 5/2 in Kenin`s favor. The duration of play before Anisimova`s exit was 29 minutes.

Earlier in the tournament, during her quarterfinal match against Emma Navarro, Anisimova had taken a medical timeout to address blisters. She explained, `My skin just tore. I`ve been taping my fingers for the last couple of matches, and the physio said she would do it again, and I got upset. Honestly, I hate taking medical timeouts for blisters. It was painful when I was serving for the match, and it was really necessary.`

The exact reason for Anisimova`s withdrawal from the semifinal remains unconfirmed at this time.

In the Charleston Open final, Sofia Kenin is set to compete against another American player, Jessica Pegula, who is currently ranked as the world`s fourth-best player.
