Andrey Rublev Assesses Madrid Title Defense: ‘Usually After Winning Last Year, I Lose in the First Round’

Andrey Rublev, the world No. 8, has shared his thoughts on defending his championship title at the Madrid Masters tournament. The Russian tennis player realistically assessed his chances, noting that he doesn`t consider himself a favorite.

“I have never managed to win a tournament twice in a row where I have already won. Therefore, I believe the chances of success are not high. It often happens that after winning a certain tournament, I get knocked out in the first round the following season,” Rublev stated.

“Regarding my condition, I feel good. Let`s see how the game unfolds,” Rublev was quoted by the Madrid tournament press service.
