Armand Duplantis Named Laureus Sportsman of the Year

Swedish pole vaulting sensation Armand Duplantis, a two-time Olympic champion, two-time world champion, and world record holder, has been named `Sportsman of the Year` at the 2025 Laureus World Sports Awards.

Duplantis competed for this award against:

  • Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz (tennis, four-time Grand Slam champion, world No. 3)
  • Dutchman Max Verstappen (motorsport, four-time Formula 1 champion)
  • Frenchman Leon Marchand (swimming, four-time Olympic champion 2024)
  • Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (cycling, three-time Tour de France winner)

According to the regulations, Laureus Award shortlists are created by voting from over 1,000 sports media outlets from more than 70 countries. The Laureus World Sports Academy then selects the winners from these shortlists.
