Aryna Sabalenka, the world`s number one ranked player from Belarus, shared her thoughts on Russian player Anastasia Potapova`s withdrawal from their scheduled match at the Stuttgart tournament in Germany. They were set to compete in the second round.
As a result of Potapova`s withdrawal, Sabalenka will now proceed directly to the quarterfinals in Stuttgart, with her first match in the tournament taking place on Friday, April 18th.
“This situation is a bit unusual,” Sabalenka admitted. “I was worried about Anastasia`s condition and messaged her to check if she was alright. I jokingly asked her, `Why are you doing this to me? Now I won`t play until Friday.`”
“It all feels a bit strange. We`ve made changes to the training schedule, and now I`ll be spending more time in the gym,” Sabalenka stated, as quoted by Punto de Break.
