Boxing Hall of Famer Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. accompanied Ronaldo Rodriguez, a prominent UFC flyweight, to the Octagon at UFC Mexico City. This grand entrance for Rodriguez, before his fight with Kevin Borjas, was a highlight. While Rodriguez`s walkout was impressive, featuring Chavez and his team, the fight`s result was unexpected.
Rodriguez returned to the Octagon after a strong showing at UFC 306. His previous victory against Ode Osbourne established him as a rising UFC talent. Anticipation was high for his UFC Mexico City fight, especially in his home country and on a major stage. The surprise appearance of Chavez, a national hero, amplified the excitement.
Despite the spectacular walkout, Rodriguez was defeated by Kevin Borjas. Borjas, a powerful fighter from Peru, shocked Rodriguez by dominating the fight. He knocked Rodriguez down early and nearly achieved a knockout multiple times. Although Rodriguez showed resilience and lasted the full three rounds, Borjas secured a unanimous decision, marking his first UFC win.
During UFC Mexico City, Chavez also met UFC star Alex Pereira, who was present shortly after his recent loss at UFC 313.
In the main event, Brandon Moreno achieved a unanimous decision victory over Steve Erceg, strengthening his claim for a title shot against Alexandre Pantoja. Manuel Torres also secured a significant win, defeating Drew Dober by TKO. Unfortunately, the fight between Joe Pyfer and Kelvin Gastelum was canceled due to Pyfer`s illness.
