Four-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain has spoken about the injury suffered by Italian player Lorenzo Musetti in the Monte Carlo Masters final.
“It was about who could control their nerves better; there was a lot of pressure. He was playing in his first Masters final, which was a significant moment for him. It was also important for me because it had been a challenging month. Being in the final put pressure on myself. I think he played well, much better than me initially. Tactically, I wasn`t playing great. I was going for shots and making a lot of mistakes. I needed to change things.”
“I slightly changed my tactics, tried to reduce errors and find a good rhythm, and I think it worked out. The start of the second set really helped me in the match. Then, in the middle of the second set, he got injured. It was disappointing for him. I feel sorry for him, but I`m sure he will return to these stages many times. I wasn`t surprised by his level; we will see Lorenzo Musetti in this position again.”
Alcaraz commented on the Italian tennis player`s potential.
“It doesn`t surprise me that Lorenzo is very close to breaking into the Top 10. He has the potential to get there. He has defeated Top 10 players multiple times. He has faced the best in the world, beaten them, and can play really tough matches consistently. To get into the Top 10, you need to do it throughout the year, and I think he has the weapons, he has the level. He is learning, as he said before, to suffer during matches. I think he said that. I am sure I will see Lorenzo Musetti competing for great things in our sport,” Alcaraz said at the press conference.
In the Monte Carlo Masters final on clay, Carlos Alcaraz defeated Lorenzo Musetti with a score of 3-6, 6-1, 6-0. Following the tournament, the Italian player reached the 11th spot in the world rankings.
