Champions League final: PSG jump out to two-goal first-half lead over Inter through Achraf Hakimi, Desire Doue

Paris Saint-Germain quickly asserted dominance in the Champions League final, scoring twice within the first 20 minutes. Achraf Hakimi and Desire Doue capitalized on defensive errors made by Inter inside their own penalty area.

PSG`s opening goal exemplified their impressive form displayed throughout 2025. The dangerous play began when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia received the ball near the left touchline and drove towards the box. The attack moved centrally via Fabian Ruiz and Vitinha, with the latter providing a pass to Desire Doue in a position offering multiple options.

Doue made the optimal choice, rolling the ball across the goalmouth for Hakimi to easily tap into an empty net. This was Hakimi`s fourth goal for PSG this season, having already scored crucial goals in the semifinals and quarterfinals. It was a particularly meaningful goal for the Moroccan defender, who chose not to celebrate against his former club, Inter, where he played during the 2020-21 season.

This goal marked PSG`s first ever strike in a Champions League final, a step towards improving upon their 2020 appearance when they were defeated 1-0 by Bayern Munich. It was also a deserved reward for their aggressive, high-pressing, and technically sound start to the match.

PSG maintained their intensity even after taking the lead. Their second goal highlighted another of their key strengths: the fluid movement of their attacking players. Ousmane Dembele, nominally the center forward, initiated a counter-attack down the left wing before the ball found its way to the excellent Doue. His subsequent shot deflected into the net, leaving Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer with no chance to make a save.

Inter, and specifically Federico Dimarco, will likely feel they could have dealt with both goals more effectively. For the first goal, the Italian international defender was caught out of position, dropping behind the rest of the defensive line while attempting to track Hakimi`s run into the penalty area. This action ultimately did little more than play the PSG player onside.

Regarding PSG`s second goal, there was limited opportunity for Dimarco to react once Doue unleashed his shot. However, turning his back on the strike was a crucial error. His action caused a significant deflection that ensured PSG doubled their advantage. He might well be contemplating for years to come whether the ball would have been saved or missed the target had he faced the shot directly.
