World No. 3 Coco Gauff of the USA commented on her convincing victory over Great Britain`s Emma Raducanu (6/1, 6/2) in the round of 16 at the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome, Italy.
“I was very happy with how I played today. It was a great performance, and I felt I was controlling and dictating the match for the most part. My forehand was a big reason I won the match, I`m really happy with how it`s developing. I felt better than in previous matches. These courts still feel very slow compared to Madrid, but I`m getting used to it with every match I play.”
“It was very windy, especially in the second set. It definitely played a big factor in the match. I`m from Florida, so I`m pretty used to stuff like that. Sometimes you have to learn to flow with the wind, knowing you`re always going to have to take an extra step for movement. There`s going to be a lot of points you don`t win pretty, a lot of those were in the second set, but that`s part of playing tennis in the wind, it`s not always pretty,” the American athlete stated.
Gauff`s opponent in the quarterfinals for a spot in the Rome semifinals will be 18-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva, whom she defeated in the quarterfinals of the previous WTA 1000 event in Madrid (7/5, 6/1).
