World No. 4 Coco Gauff shared her thoughts after defeating Mirra Andreeva 7-5, 6-1 in the quarterfinals of the Madrid tournament.
Gauff was quoted by the WTA press office as saying, “I`m happy I won and pleased with how I played. The first set was tough, a real battle of nerves. Andreeva is a talented young player, and I`m certain we`ll have many more exciting matches against each other.”
The American player also discussed the critical moment in her match against Andreeva.
When asked about the turning point after being down 4-5, 15-40 and saving two set points before winning eight straight games, Gauff replied:
“I didn`t really change anything throughout the match. I had chances to break earlier as well; if I`d converted one, maybe I would have been serving for the set at that stage. She did start making more mistakes, but I was still doing the same things. It was just that more points started playing out in my favor. I didn`t change anything because I felt I was doing a lot correctly from the beginning, it was just that Mirra was hitting aces and great drop shots,” Gauff stated in her press conference.
