Conor McGregor’s Presidential Ambition Gets Backing from UFC Executive

Conor McGregor`s controversial foray into Irish politics has received unexpected support from a high-ranking UFC official.

Dave Shaw, substituting for Dana White at a recent UFC event press conference, indicated that McGregor`s aspiration to become President of Ireland might be a shrewd career move. While McGregor has long hinted at a return to professional fighting, his political aspirations could potentially take precedence.

UFC Executive Endorses McGregor`s Presidential Campaign

Following a UFC event, Dave Shaw, Senior VP of International Operations, addressed questions about Conor McGregor`s presidential ambitions in Ireland, stepping in for Dana White.

Initially surprised by the inquiry, Shaw ultimately expressed his support, stating, “I think he`d do a great job. He seems very passionate, especially after his speech at the White House.”

Shaw further added, “He has brought up several important issues, so we`ll observe what happens. He advocates for ultimate democracy, so let`s see what the public thinks.” He then jokingly suggested that a reporter present, Oscar Willis, might be better suited to answer the question.

McGregor Promises to “Make Ireland Great Again” in Presidential Run

Following his White House visit with President Trump, McGregor declared his intention to contest the Irish presidential election later this year. Despite the role being largely symbolic, unlike the Prime Minister`s position, as incorrectly mentioned by Shaw, it would mark a significant entry into politics for the renowned UFC figure.

At 36 years old, McGregor would be a remarkably young presidential candidate, especially considering his lack of political background and prior criminal convictions.

To secure a nomination, McGregor would need the backing of at least 20 members of the Irish Senate or four local councils. However, given his polarizing public image, it remains uncertain who would support his candidacy.

In an extensive Instagram post accompanying a picture of himself wearing a “Make Ireland Great Again” hat, McGregor announced, “This is Ireland`s future with me as President. Every Irish citizen will have a voice and a choice in their future! God bless our people!”
