World No. 12 Frances Tiafoe attributed the numerous early defeats of top players in the Wimbledon tournament to the rising competition on the ATP Tour. He himself was eliminated today in the second round, losing to Cameron Norrie with a score of 6/4, 4/6, 3/6, 5/7.
“Competition is increasing every year, and there are more high-level players. Just a few years ago, Norrie reached the Wimbledon semifinals, and now I`m playing him in the second round,” said Tiafoe during his press conference.
“Young players are improving significantly; guys you`ve never even heard of are stepping onto the court and competing with you on equal terms. I believe tennis has become much tougher than it was a few years ago. The level on the tour right now is simply incredible.”
