World No. 22 Elina Svitolina and World No. 46 Gael Monfils have opened up about the experience of supporting each other from the player`s box during tennis matches.
Monfils shared: “Watching from the stands is much more challenging. The difficulty lies in the lack of control over the situation, which is genuinely tough for me.”
Svitolina echoed his sentiment: “Absolutely, I feel the same way. There`s constant anticipation, as you never know what to expect next!”
Monfils further elaborated on their dynamic: “Elina consistently encourages me to adopt a more aggressive playing style. During each point, I`m internally telling myself, `Hit the ball harder!` However, implementing that on the court isn`t always straightforward.”
Svitolina admitted to the struggle of composure: “It`s indeed difficult to maintain a poker face when you`re overwhelmed with nerves. Sometimes, emotions simply become too intense to contain.”
Monfils humorously concluded: “For me, keeping a straight face is essential – happy wife, happy life! I make sure to sit perfectly still. Even the slightest movement doesn`t go unnoticed by her, and I immediately get `that look`…” – The tennis couple revealed this in an interview with Tennis Channel`s YouTube channel.
