The 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs are here, and the goalie mask designs might just steal the spotlight.
Goalies often use their masks to showcase their personality. While many keep the color schemes consistent with their team uniforms, there`s still plenty of room for imaginative designs.
For instance, Washington Capitals goalie Logan Thompson paid tribute to the `National Treasure` movies with a drawing of Nicolas Cage. Jacob Markstrom of the New Jersey Devils displayed his team spirit with a vivid red devil head on his mask.
And that`s just a glimpse of what`s out there.
Here`s a rundown of some of the most interesting masks worn by goalies whose teams are competing in the playoffs (keeping in mind that some special designs might not be used during the playoffs).
Carolina Hurricanes
Pyotr Kochetkov
This goalie from Penza, Russia, maintains a mask that is both simple and impactful. It features subtle nods to his hometown and a bear with striking red eyes on top.

Frederik Andersen
Andersen is known for his Lego-inspired masks, including one featuring a Danish Viking, which he continues to wear this season. He has also introduced a design with a dinosaur and a hidden Lego Batman on the side.
Colorado Avalanche
Mackenzie Blackwood
Having joined the team mid-season from the San Jose Sharks, Blackwood quickly adapted his helmets. Designed by David Gunnarsson, his options include a Rocky Mountain theme and a playful design featuring the Avalanche mascot, Bernie.
Scott Wedgewood
Wedgewood also acquired mid-season, sports two distinctive masks. One features the Night King from `Game of Thrones` on the chin, flanked by alternating colored dragons. The other showcases his two dogs alongside his daughter.
Dallas Stars
Jake Oettinger
Oettinger often incorporates otters into his mask designs, and this season is no exception. This time, an otter is depicted riding a bull in a Western-themed concept developed by the Stars` equipment team. A more understated otter design is also available for Dallas` all-black uniforms.
Casey DeSmith
DeSmith also favors a Western theme, particularly for the team`s all-black uniform set.

Edmonton Oilers
Stuart Skinner
Skinner’s mask choices feature similar designs that complement the Oilers` white and blue uniforms.
Calvin Pickard
Pickard`s understated mask pays tribute to Edmonton`s team name with an oil drop prominently displayed on top.
Florida Panthers
Sergei Bobrovsky
Bobrovsky’s `brick by brick` series includes a red and purple color scheme.
Los Angeles Kings
Darcy Kuemper
Following the Kings` offseason redesign, Kuemper has embraced the team`s new logos for a stylish look.
David Rittich
Rittich’s all-silver helmet is uniquely adorned with Bart Simpson wearing a crown.
Minnesota Wild
Filip Gustavsson
Gustavsson’s helmet features a large `M` on the top and the Wild logo on the sides.

Marc-Andre Fleury
Regardless of the Wild`s playoff journey, Fleury is concluding his distinguished career with a memorable mask. It incorporates logos of several Minnesota professional sports teams—the Timberwolves (NBA), Twins (MLB), and Vikings (NFL)—on the side.

Montreal Canadiens
Sam Montembeault
Montembeault`s masks are full of hidden details, not immediately obvious. One side pays homage to Jacques Plante, Ken Dryden, and Patrick Roy—the three goalies whose numbers are retired at the Bell Centre—with a banner for each. It also includes wool stitching reminiscent of older uniforms.
His futuristic cyborg mask, designed by Jordon Bourgeault, reimagines Plante and Dryden’s classic masks as part of a cyborg’s face.
Jakub Dobes
Dobes` mask features a winter ice blue theme, complete with a wolf on top and `Doby` on the chin.
New Jersey Devils
Jacob Markstrom
Markstrom`s masks, designed by Bourgeault, embody the Devils` name with spooky and adaptable designs. One features a red devil on top with spears on the sides. For games where the Devils wear black uniforms, Markstrom has a matching dark mask.

Jake Allen
Allen’s two masks share a similar design, differentiated only by color: one is black, and the other is white.

Ottawa Senators
Linus Ullmark
Ullmark has continued with his `Sens N Stripes` series, which includes a sharp chrome design.
Anton Forsberg
Forsberg often includes his children in his mask designs, a tradition he continues with artist Dave Fried. His dog is featured on both masks, and Peppa Pig makes an appearance on a darker-themed mask.
St. Louis Blues
Jordan Binnington
The Blues logo is prominently displayed on the side of Binnington’s mask, with icicles dripping from the word `Blues` on top.

Joel Hofer
Like Binnington, Hofer’s mask uses the Blues’ color scheme but adds unique elements—dice and a flopping fish.

Tampa Bay Lightning
Andrei Vasilevskiy
Vasilevskiy’s masks are consistently contenders for the most unique design. One mask is black and blue on ice but changes to white and pale blue at room temperature. He also has an attractive light blue and white design.
Jonas Johansson
Lightning bolts are the central theme of Johansson’s mask, including a sleek black design.
Toronto Maple Leafs
Joseph Woll
Two of Woll’s masks share a theme, featuring Trolltunga (`Troll’s Tongue`), a picturesque location in Norway.
Anthony Stolarz
Stolarz will wear a sharp and chrome design in the playoffs.
Vegas Golden Knights
Adin Hill
Reflecting Las Vegas’s F1 circuit, Hill sports a suitably designed mask. He also has a `cowboy knight` mask with four cards on the back.
Ilya Samsonov
Samsonov’s mask includes the Knights’ logo on the back and swords on the side.
Washington Capitals
Logan Thompson
Thompson is a strong contender for the best pop culture-themed mask. It features a realistically detailed depiction of actor Nicolas Cage from the `National Treasure` series on both sides. The back of his mask also includes the Washington Monument and his two dogs.
Charlie Lindgren
Lindgren sports a cool retro look with 3D details that stand out.
Winnipeg Jets
Connor Hellebuyck
Hellebuyck has options including a mask that matches Winnipeg’s heritage uniforms and a streamlined all-white design.
Eric Comrie
With a prominent jet featured on the top and sides, Comrie’s mask is a great choice for this postseason.
