Gutierrez Ends Edgar’s Hall of Fame Career with Devastating Knee at UFC 281

Frankie Edgar`s illustrious MMA career concluded on a harsh note when he faced Chris Gutierrez, a rising talent in the UFC bantamweight division. Gutierrez showcased his formidable striking skills at UFC 281 in New York City, against the legendary former lightweight champion.

The fight took place at Madison Square Garden, with many anticipating it to be Edgar`s final bout. A victory for Edgar might have extended his career, but Gutierrez had other plans.

Despite Edgar`s legendary status, Gutierrez quickly established control, utilizing powerful leg kicks to impede Edgar`s movement. For the brief duration of the fight, Gutierrez kept Edgar on the defensive.

Stunning Finish in the First Round

Just two minutes into the first round, Gutierrez perfectly timed a knee strike as Edgar attempted a takedown. The knee landed flush on Edgar`s chin, instantly knocking him out cold in front of a shocked Madison Square Garden crowd.

The knockout was particularly poignant as Edgar`s family was watching cageside. Gutierrez displayed respect and sportsmanship, sharing a moment with Edgar after he regained consciousness.

This victory significantly boosted Gutierrez`s reputation in the bantamweight division. Currently competing as a featherweight, Gutierrez is set to face John Castaneda at the upcoming UFC Kansas City event.

Following the fight at UFC 281, Edgar officially announced his retirement and was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame the following year.

UFC Kansas City Preview

Looking ahead to UFC Kansas City, Ian Machado Garry and Carlos Prates are set to headline in a welterweight clash. Garry has issued a strong warning to Prates, anticipating a dynamic striking battle and potential knockout.
