Hurricanes Ink Logan Stankoven to Eight-Year Deal

The Carolina Hurricanes have finalized an eight-year contract extension with 22-year-old forward Logan Stankoven. The agreement is valued at an average of $6 million per year.

Stankoven joined the Hurricanes from Dallas as part of the Mikko Rantanen trade, arriving with one year left on his entry-level contract. He quickly adapted, scoring five goals in 19 regular-season games and adding five more goals in 15 playoff contests. Carolina`s postseason run ended in the Eastern Conference finals against the eventual Stanley Cup champions, the Florida Panthers.

Carolina General Manager Eric Tulsky commented on the signing, stating, “From the moment Logan arrived in Raleigh, it was obvious to us that he belonged here as a Hurricane. We are extremely pleased that he feels the same way and is committed to being a significant part of this organization`s future.”

Dallas was reluctant to trade Stankoven, their second-round pick from the 2021 draft. However, acquiring him was a key condition for Carolina agreeing to send Rantanen to Dallas.

Despite appearing in 24 regular-season and 19 playoff games for Dallas during the 2023-24 season, Stankoven was still classified as an NHL rookie according to eligibility rules and finished in the top 10 for the Calder Trophy. The 5-foot-8 forward, originally from British Columbia, has also played for Canada multiple times in international competitions.

The Hurricanes currently have substantial salary cap flexibility as free agency begins on Tuesday. Under the leadership of Eric Tulsky, the team has a history of making significant moves to strengthen the roster. Carolina has reached the playoffs for seven consecutive years, including three appearances in the Eastern Conference finals.
