Hurricanes Reach 3-Year, $9.5M Extension with Taylor Hall

The Carolina Hurricanes have signed veteran forward Taylor Hall to a three-year contract extension worth $9.5 million, securing him through the 2027-28 season.

The club announced the agreement on Wednesday, just one day after the Hurricanes eliminated the New Jersey Devils from their first-round playoff matchup. This victory marked Carolina`s seventh consecutive year advancing past the first round.

The 33-year-old Hall, who joined the team in a significant January trade, played a crucial role in the recent series. In a decisive game, he scored the first of four second-period goals that allowed Carolina to overcome a 3-0 deficit before ultimately winning in double overtime. A veteran of 15 seasons, Hall earned the NHL`s Most Valuable Player honor (Hart Trophy) in the 2017-18 campaign.

General manager Eric Tulsky commented in a statement, saying, “Taylor has demonstrated he`s an excellent fit for our team, and we`re delighted that he`s eager to make Raleigh his home for an additional three seasons. He provides a strong veteran presence in the dressing room and makes a significant impact on the ice.”

Hall recorded 18 goals and 24 assists across 77 regular-season games split between Chicago and Carolina. He also contributed two assists during the recent five-game series victory over New Jersey. Having missed a significant portion of the prior season following knee surgery, Hall was in the final year of a $6 million contract and approaching free agency. After joining Carolina, he quickly became a key contributor, leading the team`s skaters with four power-play goals in the regular season.

Carolina acquired the former first overall draft selection on January 24th as part of a three-team transaction. However, the player initially acquired with Hall was later traded as the main return package at the trade deadline when it became apparent he would likely not agree to a long-term deal with the Hurricanes.

Both Hall and Tulsky are expected to speak with reporters via Zoom later on Wednesday.
