“I am an open book for you”: Alexander Zverev on public appearances

World No. 2 German tennis player Alexander Zverev discussed his approach to speaking on court during tournament award ceremonies, whether after winning or losing.

“When I have a microphone, I just say what I feel,” Zverev stated. “There is no written script. I say whatever comes into my head. Honestly, I don`t have significant issues with public speaking. At one point, I participated in a media training course with the ATP, but it didn`t suit me because these courses often tell you what you should and shouldn`t say at specific moments, and what thoughts you should keep private. I am like an open book. Many top players are very different when they are in front of the camera compared to when they are alone. They are very, very different.”

He continued, “I am an open book for you guys, which sometimes makes me truly hate myself, but in some cases, it`s a good thing. It all depends on the situation.”

Zverev was also asked about his feelings when competing at the Masters tournament in Madrid.

“I really enjoy being here,” he commented during a press conference. “I think I`ve said many times that this is my favorite court in the world. I have wonderful sensations, great feelings, and also great memories here. I hope I can create another wonderful memory this year.”

Alexander Zverev successfully advanced to the third round of the competition in Madrid, where he is scheduled to play against Spanish player Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
