Iga Swiatek Outplayed by Alexandra Eala in Miami Quarterfinal

In a surprising turn of events at the Miami Open, Poland`s Iga Swiatek, the world`s second-ranked player, was defeated by Alexandra Eala of the Philippines, who is ranked 140th in the world. Eala secured her victory in the quarterfinal match with set scores of 6-2, 7-5.

This was the first career meeting between Swiatek and Eala.

Eala`s victory marks her first-ever entry into the semifinal of a WTA 1000 tournament.

Notably, this is her second consecutive win against a Top 10 player at this tournament. Previously, she defeated world No. 5 Madison Keys. Before the Miami Open, Eala had never faced an opponent ranked in the Top 25.

This impressive run will propel Eala from her current 140th ranking into the Top 80, at a minimum.

In the next round, Eala is set to compete against either Emma Raducanu of Great Britain or Jessica Pegula of the USA.
