Joaquin Buckley is currently scheduled to face the returning Kamaru Usman in the main event of UFC Atlanta on June 14. Despite this significant upcoming fight, Buckley continues to target Ian Machado Garry, a bout that was previously planned for UFC Tampa last December before being rescheduled due to divisional changes.
Buckley clearly intended to provoke an interaction with Machado Garry, positioning himself near the stage during the ceremonial weigh-ins on April 25. After Garry weighed in and faced off with Prates, he moved to the side of the stage. Buckley stood up and gestured towards `The Future`, attempting to approach him.
However, Buckley`s advance was reportedly cut off by Machado Garry`s wife, who was seated nearby. She quickly moved towards the stage, effectively stepping between Buckley and Garry to pass their son to his father. Buckley waited behind her, but Machado Garry seemingly paid little attention to him after the potential confrontation was swiftly avoided.
Buckley later shared a video of this brief interaction on his Instagram page, adding commentary over it. He claimed that during the exchange, Garry`s wife sent him a message. Buckley described the moment: “As soon as I pull up, boom, she bumped right into me. She gone use the baby as a shield, pass him off to him. So I’m like alright, alright, I’ll let you have that one but as soon as I’m about to turn around, she comes over to me, caress my arm and say, `Imma see you later on tonight.`”
Buckley`s reaction to this alleged message was direct: “Girl, what the f— that mean. I’m trying to see him not you.”
