LONDON – Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is dealing with fresh injury concerns as key midfielders Thomas Partey and Jorginho were forced off during their 1-1 draw against Brentford. This raises questions about their fitness for the upcoming Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Real Madrid on Wednesday.
Partey was substituted in the 69th minute after scoring Arsenal`s goal. It appeared to be a muscle problem, but Arteta only mentioned that Partey had “felt something.”
Shortly after, Jorginho also left the field looking uncomfortable, leaving Arsenal with 10 players for the final minutes of the game. Arteta explained that Jorginho said he couldn`t breathe properly, possibly due to a rib issue. He noted that it was unusual for Jorginho to stop playing, suggesting it might be a significant problem.
Arteta was less clear about Partey`s situation, saying they didn`t want to risk further injury. He added that the medical team would assess Partey to determine his availability for the Real Madrid match.
Losing either Partey or Jorginho, especially Partey, would be a significant blow for Arsenal as they prepare to face Real Madrid. Being without both would create a major selection headache for Arteta in midfield. While Declan Rice could move into a deeper midfield role, it would create another gap in the team.
In addition to these midfield concerns, Ben White was also absent from the Brentford game due to a knock picked up in training. Arteta stated that White was not fit to be in the squad and they will need to wait to see if he recovers in time.
Arsenal has faced a number of injury problems this season, with key players like Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka already missing periods of play.
