Controversial figure Jake Paul suggests that a highly discussed `super-fight` between Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou could serve as a fitting conclusion to both fighters` careers.
Paul, a YouTuber and boxer known for his outspoken views, holds an equity stake in the Professional Fighters League (PFL), the promotion Ngannou is currently signed with. Paul has expressed admiration for Jones, the current UFC heavyweight champion, who has previously indicated a willingness to face Ngannou.
Ngannou has consistently shown interest in a showdown with Jones. However, bringing this fight to fruition would require an unprecedented co-promotion between the UFC and PFL. While the PFL is reportedly eager, securing the agreement of UFC President Dana White appears to be a significant barrier.
Paul Weighs In on Jones`s Callout of Ngannou
Recently, Jon Jones stirred controversy among fans by seemingly dismissing a potential fight with interim champion Tom Aspinall and instead challenging Francis Ngannou on social media platform X. Ngannou is widely considered the `lineal` UFC heavyweight champion, having vacated the title upon leaving the promotion.
The possibility of this super-fight, which both heavyweights have publicly pursued since 2023, quickly recaptured the attention of the MMA community following Jones`s post. Jones`s callout came after comments from Ngannou`s coach, Eric Nicksick, suggested Ngannou might be open to a return to the UFC.
Jake Paul, leveraging his minority ownership in PFL, voiced his opinion on social media, expressing full support for the potential clash between the two promotions` top heavyweights.
“The perfect final dance for the two greatest MMA heavyweights of all time,” Paul tweeted regarding the prospective bout. “Jon Jones wants it. Francis Ngannou wants it. Big fight for the sport. Big fight for the fans and Big business. Who doesn’t want it?”
Francis Ngannou Responds to Jones
Following Nicksick`s remarks, Jones posted his initial challenge, stating:
“I’m hearing Francis Ngannou is still interested… now we’re talking. That’s a real super fight. A clash of champions, not just hype. He held the UFC belt, I’ve defended mine for over a decade. Two kings from different roads. Not just one legend facing a mouth that’s hot right now, but two real legacies colliding. That’s the kind of fight that actually adds something special to my story. At least from my point of view.”
Ngannou acknowledged the complexities of coordinating the fight across promotional lines in his reply to Jones:
“You take care of the UFC, I’ll take care of the PFL, and we’ll finally find out who’s the KING OF THE HEAVYWEIGHT.”
