Jannik Sinner Explains Morning vs. Evening Match Differences

World No. 1 and three-time Grand Slam champion Jannik Sinner was asked about his preference for playing matches during either the morning or evening sessions at ATP tournaments.

“I don`t know if I prefer playing during the day or in the evening,” Sinner stated. “It depends on who I`m playing against. In the evening, the ball flies a little slower and bounces less, allowing you to hit harder. During the day, you need to use more spin and angles. Every match has its own characteristics. Based on my first match (back), I would prefer the evening (laughs). But this can change every day.”

Earlier today, May 12th, Sinner defeated Dutchman Jesper de Jong with a score of 6-4, 6-2 in the third round of the Rome Masters. In the next round of the tournament, he is scheduled to face Argentinian теннисистом Francisco Cerundolo, who is ranked 18th in the world.

Jannik also commented on his recent victory over de Jong.

“Physically, the first game went well. I felt quite good,” he said. “Of course, matches are slightly different. Today, I started very well, then I had a dip, which is usually about one and a half games. Today it lasted three and a half games, but that`s normal. This is only the second match I`ve played in three and a half months. That`s a long period. Any chance to play again in the tournament is very positive. The fact that I can play a third match is already very, very positive for me and my progress.”
