World No. 1 Jannik Sinner reflected on his victory over Tommy Paul in the Rome Masters semifinal, securing his spot in the final after a challenging 1/6, 6/0, 6/3 battle.
Commenting on his performance against Paul, Sinner stated, “It was a bit cool in the tunnel before heading onto the court, but not a major issue. Today, I won the match more with heart, whereas against Ruud, I won using my head. Every match is a different challenge. On Sunday, I aim to combine both to deliver top-level tennis. If I can`t, the final will be tough for me.”
Speaking at the post-match press conference, the Italian player further discussed his physical condition and shared his perspective on the upcoming final.
“I benefit from matches like these. I`m pleased I managed it, especially knowing I wasn`t in peak physical condition stepping onto the court. Tommy started strong and dictated the play.”
“I made a slight tactical adjustment, which helped me turn around the second set. In the third, I focused on starting powerfully, and that worked initially. He broke back later, but the game at 3-2, I believe, was the critical moment.”
“Overall, I`m satisfied. Reaching the final in Rome is fantastic, particularly after my recent return. It means a great deal to me. We`ll see what Sunday brings. I hope to recover as fully as possible. For the past couple of matches, a blister under my foot has been a concern; it causes other muscles to tense up as well. But I`m not worried about the foot itself, the priority is for the blister to heal quickly.”
“Regardless, there are no excuses. I`m in the final, and I will give my absolute maximum on Sunday, and we`ll see what the result is.”
