Although their fight at UFC 314 was months ago, the animosity between featherweights Jean Silva and Bryce Mitchell clearly remains.
At UFC 314 in Miami, Silva secured a notable victory, submitting Mitchell in the second round. This impressive performance, arguably the most significant of Silva`s early UFC career, resulted in him joining the featherweight Top 15 rankings.
Mitchell is widely recognized as one of the UFC`s more eccentric personalities. As he prepares for his upcoming return to the Octagon, he seems to be employing unconventional methods to ready himself.
Mitchell`s Dead Cattle Training Draws Criticism From Silva
Recently, Mitchell shared a video showing him using a deceased cow on his Arkansas farm as a makeshift heavy bag, alongside one of his coaches. The training footage received varied reactions from his fans, with some expressing disapproval of using an animal carcass for training.
Silva quickly responded to the video on social media, using the opportunity to taunt Mitchell.
Mitchell posted the unusual training footage on Instagram, and his former opponent was quick to comment.
“Only this way for you to hit someone!” Silva wrote. He added, “You`d better stay on the farm taking care of cattle, because things aren`t working out with athletes!”
Leading up to UFC 314, Mitchell made accusations that Silva used “demonic” methods to interfere with his sleep before the fight. As of now, Mitchell has not publicly responded to Silva`s recent remarks.
Following his significant win against Mitchell, Silva`s career is on the rise, potentially positioning him for a featherweight title opportunity. There were even brief discussions about a possible fight between Silva and Alexander Volkanovski after Volkanovski reclaimed the featherweight title in the UFC 314 main event.
Silva`s Ongoing Taunts Towards Mitchell
This isn`t the first instance of Silva mocking Mitchell since their bout. The previous month, after Mitchell shared a video hitting a tree stump, Silva commented on the post to remind him of the outcome of their fight.
Silva`s next fight could be against a Top 10 ranked opponent, though no official announcement has been made yet. Mitchell is also awaiting his next fight booking as he aims to rebound from the loss to Silva.
Prior to the loss at UFC 314, Mitchell`s previous fight saw him defeat Kron Gracie via a forceful slam finish at UFC 310. Since appearing on The Ultimate Fighter 27, his UFC record has been inconsistent, alternating between wins and losses.
Months after their meeting in the Octagon, tension clearly persists between Silva and Mitchell. With Mitchell continuing to showcase his unique training approaches, Silva is taking every opportunity to mock his past opponent.
