According to former world No. 1 John McEnroe, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz need a new rival.
“It`s an interesting time ahead. We`ll see if another one or two players emerge who can reach that level, like Novak Djokovic did when he was trying to catch up to Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal. That shows what kind of player he was, having managed to do that. But right now, there`s a void.”
“Right now, I would look at one of [Joao Fonseca or Jakub Mensik] or Ben [Shelton]. I think it would be important for another one or two guys to come through. It would be very beneficial. The emergence of a third young star would challenge the dominance of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, which would take their already brilliant rivalry to a whole new height,” McEnroe stated.
