Seven-time Grand Slam champion John McEnroe has offered his perspective on a potential semi-final match at Roland Garros featuring Serbia`s Novak Djokovic and Italy`s Jannik Sinner.
“Believe it or not, I think if it goes to five sets, I would favor Novak, even though he is older,” McEnroe stated. “This is because Sinner hasn`t played that much recently. I think there`s a slight question mark over how he`ll hold up both mentally and physically, considering he hasn`t played many matches [leading up to Roland Garros]. It`s quite surprising to think about this, given one guy is 38 and the other is 23.”
“Novak will be tough to deal with, I promise you that,” he added, as quoted by TNT Sports. “He knows he doesn`t have many chances left, unless he`s Superman – though maybe he is. But Sinner will play more aggressively than Zverev. These guys hit the ball so hard that you have to make super-fast movements trying to reach it. It`s like a way to break someone down. I think Sinner will try to play exactly like that, and we`ll see if Novak can handle it.”
