Karen Khachanov Discusses Jannik Sinner’s Return Post-Suspension

Russian world No. 24, Karen Khachanov, commented on the return of ATP world No. 1 Italian, Jannik Sinner, following a three-month disqualification for an anti-doping rule violation.

– Sinner`s return is headline news. What are your impressions of his comeback, if any?

“None,” Khachanov replied during the `Bolshie!` broadcast. “It`s not that I don`t care, but he had a three-month ban. He trained, prepared. Now all the news media are focused on him. We`ll see what shape he`s in, how ready he is. Being out of competition for three months is definitely not easy, but then again, I`m sure he trained a lot, worked very hard on his physique and his tennis. So everyone is probably interested to see what form he will be in and what level of form he will achieve by `Roland Garros` specifically.”

As a reminder from the source text, Sinner was reported to have tested positive for doping twice last year. A test conducted during the Indian Wells `Masters` on March 10, 2024, allegedly detected clostebol – an anabolic steroid banned in sports – in the Italian`s system. A second test performed during an out-of-competition period on March 18 was also reported as positive according to the text.
