World No. 44 Matteo Arnaldi shared his thoughts after defeating Frances Tiafoe in the fourth round of the Madrid Open with a score of 6/3, 7/5. This victory marks a significant milestone for the Italian, as he reaches the quarterfinals of a clay-court Masters tournament for the first time in his career.
“I`m very happy, I played a great match,” Arnaldi commented. “I know Frances well; we had a tough battle at Wimbledon, so this win feels a bit like revenge. I played with confidence and managed the key moments effectively. I didn`t serve out the match at 5-4 in the second set, but I immediately broke back. This year I beat Djokovic, and two years ago Ruud, but in those instances, I didn`t follow up effectively, so I knew I needed to improve. Now the main thing is to stay focused, refine my game, and work hard. The last two matches have been tough battles, and I`m really looking forward to the next one.”
