Michael Chandler’s McGregor Callout Faces Setback After Retirement Talk

Michael Chandler had plans to challenge Conor McGregor in his post-fight speech at UFC 314, but this strategy might be affected by McGregor`s recent suggestion of retirement.

Chandler is scheduled to fight against rising lightweight contender Paddy Pimblett at UFC 314 on April 12. They will be the co-main event in what is anticipated to be a thrilling card.

Leading up to the fight, Chandler mentioned that he is likely to miss the birth of his daughter, with his wife`s support for his commitment to the fight.

Despite his dedication, Chandler has been frequently criticized by UFC fans for his continued pursuit of a fight with Conor McGregor, hoping for McGregor`s return to the Octagon.

Chandler`s McGregor Callout in Question Following Retirement Comments

Chandler and McGregor were initially supposed to fight at UFC 303 after coaching against each other on The Ultimate Fighter. However, McGregor withdrew due to a toe injury.

Since then, Chandler has remained optimistic about fighting McGregor, even suggesting a bare-knuckle boxing match.

Now, before his match with Pimblett in Miami, Chandler has stated his intention to call out the former UFC champion if he defeats Pimblett.

“I will do my job on April 12th, and I will call out Conor again. I get criticized regardless, and I want to see if he will keep his word. If he returns this year, I want to fight him,” Chandler stated.

Fan reactions online have been mixed, with some suggesting Chandler should move on from pursuing a fight with McGregor.

Conor McGregor`s UFC Future Uncertain After Recent Statements

McGregor, 36, has not fought since 2021 and seems to be focusing on other priorities.

McGregor has announced his intention to run for president of Ireland, indicating a possible shift away from his fighting career.

During a recent press conference, McGregor hinted at his uncertain future in the UFC, suggesting he might not compete again.

“I have two fights left on my contract, and negotiations are ongoing. There are other things happening back home, and I am content with my achievements. There are other things for me now,” McGregor admitted.

Adding to the speculation about his retirement, McGregor reportedly has not been tested by UFC anti-doping authorities since last year.
