Former world No. 54 Natalia Vikhlyantseva has provided her commentary on Aryna Sabalenka`s loss to Coco Gauff in the final of Roland Garros, which concluded with a score of 7/6(5), 2/6, 4/6.
“There was a feeling that Aryna went into the match as the clear favorite,” Vikhlyantseva remarked. “Before the match started, I remembered that she had previously lost to another American player. Gauff had mentioned ahead of time that she considered clay her most comfortable surface in terms of suitability. Everyone she trained with was focused on enhancing her game on clay.”
“Today, there were numerous emotions coming from Aryna. They were understandable,” Vikhlyantseva continued. “I was personally satisfied with her performance in the final. It was a three-set match, but Gauff demonstrated greater stability. When she was facing setbacks, she didn`t display emotions. The fact that she didn`t have many double faults on her serve also played a significant role in the outcome.”
