Paul Craig breaks his silence after herpes led to last-minute UFC Vegas 106 fight cancellation

Scottish fighter Paul Craig has finally addressed the recent cancellation of his scheduled bout. The popular light heavyweight contender was set to face Rodolfo Bellato on Saturday night at UFC Vegas 106.

However, the scheduled co-main event was abruptly canceled just before the fight. The reason given was a `medical issue` affecting Bellato, who later confirmed on social media that he had a skin infection he identified as herpes. Craig learned the news while he was warming up backstage, preparing to walk to the octagon.

Paul Craig details UFC Vegas 106 ordeal

Craig recently spoke about the incident on the `Believe You Me` podcast with Michael Bisping and Paul Felder. He described the moment UFC`s Hunter Campbell delivered the news backstage.

Craig recalled the surprise of seeing Campbell, noting it was unusual. Campbell informed him that his opponent was out due to a skin infection. Craig expressed the difficulty and frustration of being ready to fight, just 30 minutes away from walking out, only for it all to be taken away.

He mentioned that veteran referee Jason Herzog was the one who observed Bellato`s condition and reported it to the athletic commission.

What’s next for Paul Craig?

Fortunately, Craig`s bout with Bellato has been quickly rescheduled. He confirmed that the fight is now set to happen sometime in June.

Craig mentioned that they were offered a May 31st date, but that would have required staying in Las Vegas for an additional two weeks. While he was willing, it wasn`t practical for his coaching staff and training partners who have other commitments like gyms and families.

Rescheduling for approximately a month later works better for the team, allowing them to return home, see their families, maintain their diet, and continue preparing.
