Four-time Grand Slam doubles champion Rennae Stubbs recounted her initial impressions upon first seeing Kazakhstani tennis player Alexander Bublik competing on the court.
Sharing her memory on The Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast, she said:
“I remember practicing mixed doubles with him once. He was playing doubles alongside Elena Rybakina against Sam Stosur and her partner at the Australian Open. I saw him from a distance for the first time and thought, `Yeah, he`s insane!`”
“He was hitting second serves at 225 km/h, and I honestly had no idea what was going on. But you have to give him credit: his playing style is so unpredictable, and that can be a significant advantage on grass.”
This memorable encounter occurred before Alexander Bublik recently secured the ATP 500 title in Halle, Germany, where he triumphed over Russian player Daniil Medvedev in the final with a score of 6/3, 7/6(4).
