Renowned Russian coach Vladimir Kamelzon has positively assessed the start of cooperation between Andrey Rublev and Marat Safin. Kamelzon believes this partnership will benefit Rublev, as his current team, according to the coach, cannot help the tennis player reach a new level.
Kamelzon noted that Rublev has remained in the top 10 for a long time but cannot rise higher. He expressed hope that Safin`s experience and authority will help Rublev improve his results and consolidate his place in the top ten.
“Everyone is commenting on the new alliance that has formed between Safin and Rublev. When I found out about it, I immediately said that it was a very good alliance. Rublev cannot start playing consistently, his team cannot cope with him. He just doesn’t go further. He somehow reached the fourth number once, and then – fifth, sixth, seventh, ninth, etc. Rublik never got out of this top ten. I think that Marat Safin has every chance that Rublev will show a higher result and be able to defend his good place in the top ten. I think this will be beneficial. Something might work out there, because Safin’s experience and his authority are two components that coincide. Rublev must understand this,” – Kamelzon told `Soviet Sport`.
Safin joined Rublev`s team for the clay season. On Wednesday, April 9, Andrey will play against Frenchman Gael Monfils in the second round of the Masters tournament in Monte Carlo.
