The Meaning Behind Raul Rosas Jr.’s Catchphrase ‘Chiwiwis’

Raul Rosas Jr.`s unusual catchphrase, `Chiwiwis,` has become incredibly popular among fans after his impressive UFC victories.

While it may not be as well-known as Alex Pereira`s `Chama` yet, fans are captivated by the strange phrase Rosas Jr. introduced last summer. Following his win against Ricky Turcios, in a post-fight interview, Rosas Jr. used a peculiar sound, later identified as `Chiwiwis`.

This phrase quickly became a viral meme, and he continues to use it at the start of post-fight interviews. If he wins his match tonight at UFC Mexico City against Vince Morales, he will undoubtedly say it again.

The Story of `Chiwiwis`

Raul Rosas Jr. gained social media attention when he began using `Chiwiwis` to shout out his friends in post-fight interviews, a phrase from their private conversations. Initially, fans were confused about what he was saying, but `Chiwiwis` has since become popular, with Rosas Jr. explaining its interesting origin.

“A very close friend, almost like a brother, and I spend a lot of time together. He used to say it constantly, and it stuck with me,” Rosas Jr. told MMA Junkie last year. “It really took off during a training camp in Centro Ceremonial Otomí.”

“It’s in the mountains with no cell service, so we could only train and play ping pong to pass the time. Whenever he won a game, he’d say, ‘Chiwiwis,’ or just when we were joking around. It just became a habit.”

“After my fight, it wasn`t planned. I was happy with the win, and it just came out, and people loved it.”

Raul Rosas Jr.: Youngest UFC Fighter

Raul Rosas Jr. first came to the attention of fans on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2022, before his 18th birthday. He defeated Mando Gutierrez, earning a UFC contract, which began his exciting journey in the promotion.

Dana White told the press after seeing the young fighter, “There was no discussion needed. We didn’t even talk about it back there. I’ve never seen anything like it… He’s incredibly talented, special, and different. You just don’t see kids that age perform like that.”

Rosas Jr. won his UFC debut against Jay Perrin with a first-round submission, earning a bonus. However, his winning streak was interrupted at UFC 287 by Christian Rodriguez, who won by unanimous decision.

Despite this setback, he returned with bonus wins against Ricky Turcios and Terrence Mitchell. He then defeated Aoriqileng at UFC 306 and is now fighting Vince Morales at UFC Mexico City.
