The Smashing Machine: Dwayne Johnson’s UFC Movie Release Date Announced

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is set to star as UFC icon Mark Kerr in a forthcoming film. This role is considered one of the most ambitious projects for the WWE superstar. Johnson has described the movie, titled “The Smashing Machine,” as a passion project. The announcement came after Johnson was seen at UFC 244 when Jorge Masvidal defeated Nate Diaz.

His enthusiasm for the UFC grew, leading to his decision to portray Kerr in “The Smashing Machine.” Kerr is a legendary figure from the early days of MMA and a significant part of UFC history. Johnson has undergone rigorous training to prepare for the role and accurately represent Kerr`s story.

‘The Smashing Machine’ Movie Coming This Year

UFC enthusiasts eager to see Johnson`s portrayal of Kerr will not have to wait much longer. A24 has announced the release date for “The Smashing Machine.”

According to reports, “The Smashing Machine” is scheduled to be released on October 3, 2025.

This release date is earlier than anticipated. The rescheduling of the Michael Jackson biopic created an opportunity for A24 to release “The Smashing Machine” in October.

Originally planned as a two-part film, the Michael Jackson biopic`s delay opened a slot for “The Smashing Machine” to premiere in October.

Emily Blunt will join Johnson in the cast, and boxer Oleksandr Usyk will make a cameo appearance. Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Bas Rutten, a contemporary of Kerr, will also play himself in the movie.

Mark Kerr Supports The Rock in New Film

Mark Kerr himself is endorsing the film and anticipates “The Smashing Machine” will be a success.

In an interview with THE HANNIBAL TV, Kerr discussed his conversations with Johnson before the film`s production. He praised Johnson`s character, describing him as a “gracious, cool dude.”

Kerr recounted Johnson saying, “‘Hey, Mark, I just want you to know this is an honor for me to do this—to take this on and put everything I have behind it to make it the best possible production and movie that I can.’

Johnson added, “It’s just something that I really believe I can do a great job with. Everyone involved, I think, will be happy with the final product.”

“The Smashing Machine” is being directed by Benny Safdie, known for his work on “Uncut Gems,” raising expectations among Kerr`s fans for a quality depiction of the UFC legend.
