Trent Alexander-Arnold Announces Departure From Liverpool After Two Decades

After a remarkable 20-year journey with the club, Liverpool`s esteemed defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has officially announced his decision to leave. His departure is set for the summer of 2025, upon the expiration of his current contract, with widespread reports indicating he is poised to join Real Madrid as a free agent.

The English international shared his emotional decision in a video posted across his social media platforms, a move that had been anticipated by many.

Confirming his exit, Alexander-Arnold stated: “After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season. This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life.” He explained that he prioritized the team`s success before making the announcement public.

“This club has been my whole life – my whole world – for 20 years,” he reflected. “From the Academy right through until now, the support and love I have felt from everyone inside and outside of the club will stay with me forever. I will forever be in debt to you all.”

He cited the desire for a “new challenge” as the primary motivation for stepping outside his comfort zone to grow professionally and personally. Expressing his deep gratitude, he thanked coaches, managers, teammates, staff, and the supporters for his time at the club. “I`ve been blessed enough to live out my dreams here and I will never, ever take for granted the special moments I’ve been fortunate enough to have lived through with you all. My love for this club will never die.”

Liverpool Football Club also issued a statement acknowledging the player`s decision. They confirmed that the 26-year-old`s extensive two-decade association with the Reds would conclude on June 30, 2025. The club expressed their “gratitude and appreciation for his contribution during a sustained period of success.”

Alexander-Arnold first joined the Liverpool Academy at the tender age of six, progressing through the ranks to make his senior debut in 2016. During his time with the Merseyside giants, he has accumulated 352 appearances, scoring 23 goals and securing eight major honours. This includes the Premier League title won this season and the UEFA Champions League triumph in the 2018-19 campaign, a moment etched into the club`s history. Following the conclusion of his contract, the highly-rated defender is widely expected to complete his anticipated transfer to Real Madrid in the summer of 2025.
