UFC Mexico City Weigh-in Drama: Commission Under Scrutiny Amid Scale Issues

The UFC Mexico City event is set for Saturday night, and the fighters participated in the pre-fight weigh-ins on Friday.

Brandon Moreno, former UFC flyweight champion, is headlining the event against Steve Erceg, a recent title challenger.

Another notable fighter on the card is Raul Rosas Jr, who aims to break another UFC record after becoming the youngest fighter in the promotion.

Fortunately for fans, Moreno and Erceg both successfully made weight for their main event fight. Moreno is looking to secure another opportunity at the 125lb title.

UFC Mexico City Fighter Questions Commission After Weight Discrepancy

While the main event fighters avoided any weight issues, the weigh-ins weren`t without controversy.

Austin Hubbard, a participant from The Ultimate Fighter, is scheduled to fight Marquel Mederos in the prelims. Hubbard hopes to return to winning form and end Mederos’s winning streak.

Mederos weighed in at 156lbs, meeting his weight requirement. However, controversy arose when Hubbard stepped on the scale later.

Initially, the commission official announced Hubbard`s weight as 157lbs, which was 1lb over the limit.

Hubbard immediately questioned this, stating that he had weighed 155lbs on the backstage test scale before using the official scale.

Following Hubbard’s complaint to Marc Ratner, UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, Ratner requested the test scale be brought to the stage.

On his second attempt using the test scale, Hubbard weighed 156lbs.

Ronaldo ‘Lazy Boy’ Rodriguez Misses Weight for UFC Mexico City Fight

Adding to the weigh-in drama, Ronaldo ‘Lazy Boy’ Rodriguez, a highly regarded prospect, also missed weight for his fight.

The 25-year-old Rodriguez is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Ode Osbourne at UFC 306 last September, which was the biggest win of his career.

Rodriguez is scheduled to face Kevin Borjas. He weighed in at 157lbs and chose not to cut any further weight.

Despite missing weight, the fight is still scheduled to proceed, and Rodriguez will forfeit 20% of his fight purse to Borjas.
