UFC told that not giving undefeated star Alexander Volkanovski title fight should be ‘illegal’

It remains uncertain who will be the first challenger for Alexander Volkanovski`s second reign as UFC Featherweight Champion.

This comes after Volkanovski defeated Diego Lopes at UFC 314 in April, reclaiming the 145-pound title following a challenging phase in his career.

Recent knockout losses to rivals Islam Makhachev and Ilia Topuria had led many to believe the Australian`s peak was behind him. However, `Alexander the Great` silenced the doubters with a classic performance against Lopes in Miami, and he now looks to replicate that form in his next title defense.

Regarding Volkanovski`s next opponent, many observers feel the most deserving choice is clear.

Ali Abdelaziz Slams UFC Over Undefeated Movsar Evloev Being Denied Title Shot

Few fighters have amassed an undefeated streak like Movsar Evloev without being granted a title opportunity.

The Russian contender holds an 8-0 record in the UFC, having recently overcome high-level opponents such as Lopes, Arnold Allen, and Aljamain Sterling.

Yet, a perceived lack of exciting finishes and a sometimes cautious style appear to make the UFC hesitant about pairing Evloev with Volkanovski.

According to Evloev`s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, this situation is unacceptable.

“It’s illegal for him not to be fighting next for the title because who’s above him, right?” Abdelaziz stated to ESPN MMA.

“It’s crazy this guy is not even in the conversation. … They say he needs one more [win].”

Alexander Volkanovski`s Stance on Fighting Movsar Evloev

Should the UFC maintain their apparent reluctance towards Evloev, they would be going against Alexander Volkanovski`s own expressed wishes.

The Australian champion is reportedly eager to test himself against the unbeaten 31-year-old, viewing a potential fight as a chance to further solidify his impressive legacy in the sport.

Even before securing his return to champion status, Volkanovski had indicated his interest in facing Evloev, whom he described as `definitely deserving` of the next title shot.

“I’m telling you that I’m gonna go out there and I’m gonna win the belt and I’ll call out [Evloev] so he can probably wait if he wants to,” Volkanovski said on The Ariel Helwani Show.

“I’m winning that title and I’ll fight him three months later. Tell me the date that we can do it and I’ll call the shots that night.

“I think Movsar is definitely deserving.”

Despite Volkanovski`s public support, UFC President Dana White and the promotion may require more convincing, potentially demanding another top-contender fight from Evloev.
