Veronika Kudermetova on Madrid Power Outage: “What Times Are We Living In?”

World No. 52, Russia`s Veronika Kudermetova, posted a video on social media alongside her husband and personal coach, Sergey Demekhin, sharing their reactions to a power outage in Madrid, Spain.

Kudermetova said: “What times are we living in? We are in Madrid right now. We have no internet, no electricity. It`s crazy. Any thoughts?”

Demekhin responded: “Stone Age in Europe.”

Veronika also shared a photo showing empty shelves in one of Madrid`s stores towards the end of the day.

Significant electricity issues began to affect Madrid and much of the Iberian Peninsula. Due to the power cut, electronic line-calling and scoring systems at the tournament ceased to function. Tournament organizers announced that all matches in Madrid were postponed until the following day.

In the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid, Veronika Kudermetova`s singles campaign concluded in the third round after losing to Ukraine`s Marta Kostyuk (0/6, 6/4, 4/6). In the doubles event, the Russian player, partnering with Elise Mertens of Belgium, advanced to the quarterfinals.
