“We Are Doing Great Work Together”: Andrey Rublev on His Team’s Significance Before Roland Garros

World No. 17 Andrey Rublev spoke about the role of his team ahead of the start of the French Open, Roland Garros. The Russian trains under the guidance of Fernando Vicente and Marat Safin.

“Everyone currently working with me on the team will be here at the tournament. For me, it`s not strictly essential that everyone is at the tournament and supports me during matches, but this is a major tournament, a Grand Slam. The entire team is involved in the preparation. Therefore, in my opinion, their presence is a given. It`s right; it shows mutual respect. We are doing significant work together.”

When asked about opponents` opinions, Rublev noted: “Perhaps it`s not that important. It only matters from the standpoint of etiquette and good manners. On the Tour, you can build good relationships with some players, while with others you might not interact. If a friendship develops, that`s great. If not, that`s okay too.”

In the first round of the French Open on May 27, Andrey Rublev will play against Lloyd Harris of South Africa.
